Ilyusha did give me some more time to sleep as his wide awake time was 8:30 a.m. Yei!!!

I asked Yura to get home before 5:30p.m. as I had a pedi & mani appointment at 6p.m. Knowing how our little barsuchok can be unpredictable with food cravings, I pumped and left him 100ml of breast milk. I fed Ilyusha at 3:30 p.m. so he was due for a feed around 6:30p.m. and when I left for my appointment, Ilyusha was fast asleep. I had to wait a bit so I called our house around 6 p.m. and I heard Ilyusha crying and his daddy was warming up the milk as he wanted his food earlier. I promised to keep my phone next to me but didn’t get any calls, so assumed that everything was ok. I was wrong! As I got home with my nails all done up I had an ear full about daddy trying to feed Ilyusha. I left the bottle with the same nipple that we used about a month or so ago (level 1). Apparently now this nipple is too small and Ilyusha was getting frustrated as the milk was not going through easily. I did leave the next size up nipples (level 2) next to the sterilizer, but Yura went upstairs and dug out bigger nipples that were level 3 (he didn’t see the ones that I left in the kitchen. Of course, with level 3 Ilyusha was gagging and choking from too much milk and it was spilling all over. The result, our little barsuchok was still looking for more food when what I left him was done (and spilled) and daddy was very frustrated. Thankfully with the help of our trusted pacifier, Ilya quickly forgot that he wanted more and by the time I got home it was long forgotten.

Wednesday, May 23, was crazy. I had to have my hair done and was freaking out a bit about how that would work with Ilyusha coming with me. It worked great. I fed Ilyusha before we left, he was still awake on the drive to the salon. As I was turning onto Hwy 7, he started fussing as he lost his pacifier. I told Ilyusha that it was tough luck as there was nothing I could have done then, and after fussing a bit more, he was fast asleep. Ilyusha ended up sleeping through the whole time I was having my head done and then picking up Yurka from the office. [The day before I had an epiphany. The original plan was that Yura would come home a bit earlier, but as I was getting my nails done, I thought that I would be better if I pick him up myself after my hair appointment and he can help me with Ilyusha while I would have my make up done.] My hair appointment did run late and I was in a hurry. Luckily the girl who did my make-up, Agnes, lives a few streets over, so I just called her to come a bit later. I did manage to feed Ilyusha before she came, but I was so happy that Yura was home as there was no way Ilyusha was sleeping through the make-up session. He did stay with us for a bit, but then got bored and was hanging out with daddy.

The traffic was heavy and instead of coming 15 minutes early (my original plan) we were 30 minutes late. I was planning to feed Ilyusha when we arrive, but he was asleep so the decision was made to start the shoot right away. As he is not a newborn (and to tell you the truth even when he was a newborn we wouldn’t have been able to shoot him without him waking up) he did wake up, but we managed to get about 30 minutes of shooting before he got fussy and asked “politely” to be fed. After he was fed, the shooting continued. He was drooling and spilling milk all over the place, but it wasn’t a big deal. Daddy and I just had tons of napkins in our hands and pockets to have him ready for next picture. He was a trooper. At some point the photographer said that we were done in the studio and that he wanted to take some pics outside. I asked what was the time and it was close to 8 p.m.!!! Ilyusha is usually in bed by that time, so of course, as we went outside he was getting a big fussy. The last few shots were all with him on my shoulder.

As we were driving home, he fell asleep again, so we decided to stop for a bit to eat. Ilyusha woke up while we were waiting for our food and no amount of coaxing made him fall asleep again. I know that legally I can breast feed in the restaurant or anywhere for that matter, but for me our car is much more comfortable, so I (not so quietly) slipped outside and into our car. Once Ilyusha had a full stomach he did fall back to sleep, and mommy and daddy shared a desert (by shhhh, it’s our little secret).

Thursday, May 24, and Friday, May 25, were quiet days as life continued as usual. Trying to put Ilyusha to bed, feeding Ilyusha, going for walks and playing with him. I did continue putting him in his Bumbo seat and sending Yurka photos.

(As you can see from the calendar, this pic was taken before the photo shoot. Ilyusha is wearing gloves to save his pretty face for the cameras!)

It was also very hot, so I tried to dress him lightly. We got a very cute MEXX outfit as a present. The material is so soft and light, so I wanted Ilyusha to wear it. But, it turned out that it is such a pain to put it on. I have no clue what those designers are thinking when they are creating those outfits, like they’ve never even seen a newborn baby.
